Main Engine / Auxiliary Engine Maintenance and Overhaul
The Heart of Your Vessel is Entrusted to Us: Main Engine Maintenance and Overhaul
At İntermak, we approach the overhaul process of the main and auxiliary engines, which ensure your vessel’s propulsion and operational continuity, with the precision of an engineering project. Our goal is not only to solve existing problems but also to secure the future operational safety and efficiency of your machinery. Our expert team meticulously manages all maintenance and repair processes for your vessel’s engines within the framework of Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and international classification standards.
- Assessment and Disassembly: The process begins with the analysis of the engine’s current performance data. Our expert team, strictly adhering to OEM documentation and instruction book guidelines, carries out the careful disassembly of the units. All components, from the smallest bolt to the largest engine block part, are labeled and systematically recorded in preparation for reassembly.
- Analysis and Component Inspection: This stage is the most critical step of the overhaul. All disassembled parts are subjected to NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) procedures. Modern methods such as magnetic particle testing (MT) for surface cracks and ultrasonic testing (UT) for internal defects and wear detection are used. All bearing, shaft, piston, and liner measurements are taken using calibrated precision measuring tools (micrometers, dial indicators). The obtained data is compared against the manufacturer’s tolerance limits to clearly determine the condition of each part.
Upon agreement on our detailed inspection report and the proposed repair plan, the repair, assembly, and testing phases commence:
- Repair and Assembly: In accordance with your approval, parts that can be repaired are restored to their original standards using our workshop’s technological capabilities, while those requiring replacement are renewed with certified or OEM-original spare parts. The assembly process is a precision engineering operation. All components are brought together with the highest precision, in full compliance with manufacturer data, including critical procedures such as applying correct torque values, setting clearances, and making timing adjustments.
- Testing and Delivery: After assembly, initial start-up, and adjustments, the engine is taken on a sea trial with the vessel to verify its performance under real-world conditions. During this trial, all critical parameters—such as exhaust gas temperatures, oil pressure, fuel consumption, and vibration levels—are monitored in real-time under various loads. Once it is confirmed that the engine meets performance standards, the job is delivered to you along with all technical reports.
- Comprehensive Reporting: As the final step of our service, a comprehensive technical service file is prepared, which includes all procedures performed from start to finish, a list of replaced parts, critical measurement tables, and photographs taken during the work. This report not’t just a record of the work done; it serves as a valuable part of your vessel’s maintenance archive and a verification document for future class surveys.
